Sweet Pea tells a Story

Happy Veterans Day

to

All the Veterans I know

On a weekend

that the worst typhoon

 in history

strikes

the Philippines

It is 1965 and He just learned he was being stationed in

The Philippines. Last year he bought "Sweet Pea"

and didn't want to leave her behind so he decided

to bring her with him overseas.

With his sons and brother by his side, off they went

to the Port to deliver Sweet Pea. One son so

small he stood in the seat between everyone else

as they made their way.

Before you know it, he had to leave his family

and report to duty while he waited for

his Sweet Pea to arrive.

All seemed well until the accident.

A friend of his decided to play the old

"cover the drivers eyes" while

a jeep full of drunk airmen traveled

a steep mountain road in The Philippines.

No, they weren't in Sweet Pea, but

the jeep careened down the mountain,

throwing all four of them out and seriously

injuring all of them. While they lay unconscious,

a young village boy snuck in and started  to

pick pocket his wallet, bringing him back to consciousness.

He grabbed the boys arm and twisted it hard

before letting go, relieved he didn't get the wallet.

With several broken bones and a hole in his cheek,

the Air Force shipped him home suddenly

leaving Sweet Pea behind in another country.

The six year old son was sitting in the living room

back in St. Martin, reading his story Bible,

asking God "please bring my Dad home"

when the front door flew open and there stood his Dad.

At that very moment he asked for something,

he received it

and he has always trusted God since then,

no questions asked, just firm Faith.

Poor Sweet Pea made it home months later,

a true miracle for that to happen.

She had been abused on the journey home

but made it in one piece.

To think she stayed in a country

so far away is amazing.
